İngilizcede nobody, nothing, nowhere, never, no, hardly gibi kelimeleri kullanarak olumsuz cümle oluşturabiliriz. Bu kelimeleri kullandığımız cümlelerde not kullanmayız.
Aşağıdaki örnek cümleleri inceleyelim:
Nobody loves me.
Beni hiçkimse sevmez. Bu cümlenin anlamı olumsuzdur.
He said nothing.
She never writes to me.
I have got no money.
I can hardly understand him.
Aşağıdaki cümlelerin nasıl değiştirildiğini inceleyelim:
She didn’t say anything. She said nothing.
I didn’t see anybody. I saw nobody.
We didn’t have any trouble. We have no trouble.
My parents don’t go out. My parents never go out.
I didn’t eat anything yesterday. I ate nothing yesterday.
It didn’t rain for three months. It rained hardly for three months.

I drink coffee. I don’t drink coffee.
I drink coffee. I never drink coffee.
Somebody telephoned. Nobody telephoned.
My grandmother drives fast. My grandmother never drives fast.
Andrew plays the guitar. Andrew doesn’t play guitar.
I like Ann’s new shoes. I don’t like Ann’s new shoes.
